This site will be filled with the random firings of my mind. Filtered by what I have time to actually post. Movies, books, concerts, drinks, events, walks, whatever.
My hobbies
Photography: I’ve been doing this at a hobby level since 1990. I’ve been more focused on portraits since 2000. Still a hobby, and I’ve only managed a scattering of actual photoshoots since, but I’m slowly getting better. My greatest joy with portraiture is having a subject who doesn’t think they photograph well, who is completely overjoyed by the results I present them with.

Crochet: Learned to crochet a long time ago. When I was 12 or 13 years old. Maybe younger. I don’t quite recall. In the mid-90s I picked up thread crochet. Specically, I was interested in small crocheted pouches, I ended up focusing specifically on one round doily pattern about 6″ across, which I taught myself to add beads to. 66 seed beads to be specific. I made lots of these in various colors off and on over the years for gifts. I filled them with odd little items and called them “fairy pouches”. In 2000 I made a bunch of snowflakes, most white, but some in red, but no beads. In 2005 I discovered a heart shaped doily pattern. This was originally for a ring pillow for my best friends wedding, but I liked it so much, I again added beads, and made it in lots of different colors and gave them as gifts. In 2006 I decided that I’d given everyone too many of the above items, and I’m not sure they really like them, or just humor me, so I thought I’d try something more useful and practical. I’ve moved to yarn crochet, bought a set of hooks, and started making hats. Many many hats were made between Sept. and Dec. 2006. There were also some slippers and some fingerless gloves, but mainly hats. I took lots of notes on what I made, with what kind of yarn, and changes I made, and new things I designed myself. Now I want to post some of this information and share it with others who are interested.
